Jordan began her clarinet lessons at Colorado Music Institute in April 2018 after feeling like she had exhausted her natural talent and wanted some support from an experienced professional. After trying multiple possible mentors, she was a hands-down “YES” after an initial lesson with Harry.
In middle school, Jordan naturally excelled–earning first chair in the school band and first chair in district band. Things got more difficult in high school at Grandview High School when placement included a variety of technique tests. One of the tests is a scales test (how many correctly completed scales a student can complete in one minute). Last year, Jordan was able to complete 2 scales. After lessons with Harry, Jordan completed 7 scales and got 2 extra credits for playing two octaves of two of the scales.
This year, Grandview High School’s Symphonic Band has Jordan Walters as 1st Chair Clarinet, among 7 clarinets. In addition, after being denied an opportunity for District Honor Band last year, this year Jordan has been awarded one of eight clarinet chairs in the Cherry Creek District Honor Band! Jordan’s dedication to excellence and her dedication to her lessons and practice at Colorado Music Institute make her our Student of the Month. We are so proud of you, Jordan!!!
