SOUSAPHONE LESSONS

SOUSAPHONE LESSONS FOR ALL AGES & STYLES

Welcome to Colorado Music Institute, where ALL are welcome!  We teach SOUSAPHONE LESSONS for what YOU want to learn! Our sousaphone teachers understand that every student is an individual, with personal musical needs and goals. We make it a priority to tailor how we teach and what we teach to your individual needs. If you enroll here for sousaphone lessons, your teacher will ask you about your favorite type of music, and set goals to help accomplish whatever musical aspirations you have for yourself or your child. Together, you will develop a plan to achieve your goals! We love beginners, so even if you don’t know where to begin, we are here to help!

We balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson you are challenged with a new technical or theory concept, but always end with something fun such as your favorite sheet music or song. Once you or your child are ready to, you may attend one of our FREE recitals!

We use a variety of sousaphone method books to accomplish this and encourage students to help choose the music they want to learn. Our teachers can even help you with simple sousaphone setup or adjustments, like picking a mouthpiece that works well for you or what to look for in trying out a new instrument.

HOW DO I IMPROVE EMBOUCHURE?

Embouchure is a critical aspect of performing and it involves the correct coordination between the upper lip, lower lip, teeth and chin.  Proper embouchure does not happen overnight and is one of the most important techniques to begin properly.  Most of our students that start in school band and then later start private lessons state that they wish they had started private lessons sooner to correctly learn the proper embouchure.  At the Colorado Music Institute, we believe in making music lessons fun and we want to help our students get started the right way, from the beginning.

I DON’T HAVE ANY MUSICAL BACKGROUND OR ABILITY. CAN I STILL HELP MY CHILD PRACTICE?

Yes. Even if you don’t have a musical background you can ask the teacher for advice on how to help your child practice. By simply monitoring that they are doing exercises a certain number of times per day the student will progress. Parents will occasionally sit in on their child’s music lesson to get an idea of the proper way a song should sound or how the student should be positioning their hands.
