RECITALS

Performances are important milestones for the developing student musician. Access to a performing hall with a stage, lights, sound equipment, and fine instruments is necessary for students to have strong preparatory experiences. Rental of professional halls is expensive, and it requires liability insurance, which professional institutions are required to have. This is why the students who come to a professional music school will have a more realistic performing experience playing on a professional stage, the kind of experience they often dream of when watching American Idol or their favorite performer on YouTube.

Our next recital will be held October 25, 26, and 27 2024! Since our recital is so close to Halloween, we would love to see students wearing costumes! Costumes are highly encouraged but not required. Teachers will prepare students with music to perform and get them ready for the experience of being on stage. Contact the front desk if you need to make any changes to your recital time.

Recital FAQ

Why should my child or I participate in a recital?

Performing is such an important part of a student’s music education. Everyone loves to see live music and go to concerts, but not everyone gets a chance to be on the other side of the stage! Recitals are a great way to give students a goal to work towards in their lessons, to boost their confidence in their abilities, and give students a sense of accomplishment at the end. Playing for others is an important skill to develop for musicians of all skill levels. ALL instruments are encouraged to perform, and ALL skill levels are welcome! You don’t have to play Chopin or Beethoven to participate in a recital – a short tune you’ve worked on with your teacher in lessons is a great place for beginners to start!

How do I prepare for a recital?

Your teacher is the best person to talk to if you’re interested in performing in our recital. They can help recommend what to play, how to practice, and performance etiquette.

What time do I arrive?

You may arrive up to 30 minutes before the start of your recital time. This time will be used for tuning and photos!

How long does the recital last?

Each recital is scheduled for 60 minutes. After the recital, there will be a small reception in the lobby to celebrate student accomplishments and all of their amazing performances.

Where is it?

Recitals are located in our theater at 11234A E. Caley Ave, Centennial, CO 80111. We encourage you to invite your family and friends!

What do the performers wear?

Performers should wear something nice and professional. Think “Dress for Success!” No need to get a suit or a ball gown, but we encourage students to avoid jeans, hoodies, t-shirts, etc. Whatever you wear should be comfortable and allow you to present your best self during your performance.

What do I bring?

Be sure to bring your instrument and your music! Equipment such as stands, amps, mics, etc will all be provided. Bring any additional instrument supplies you might need such as rosin, reeds, valve oil, etc.

What should I expect when I arrive?

We will direct you to where our warm-up room, performance, and photos will all be located. Seating is all first-come, first-serve, so if you’re hoping for a specific seat, arrive a little early.

Can we take pictures and video?

CMI will provide a photographer for the event, but families may still take their own photos and video. Please make sure flash is off and your photography is not disruptive to the performances.

Is there an admission or participation charge?

No! Students may participate in the recital as part of their lesson tuition, and parents are not required to pay for tickets or admission.

What if I get nervous?

Everyone from a first-time performer to the most experienced musicians get nervous before performances – it’s normal! Remember to take your time before starting, take a deep breath, and take a bow. Enjoy your time on stage because it goes by so quickly! When most students are finished with their performance at the recital, they cannot wait until the next one in order to do it all again!

To get through performance anxiety, try to play in front of a smaller and trusted audience (for example, your family or close friends). This is a great way to work up to a larger performance.

The recital experience is part of any performer’s development. We congratulate you on participating, and we all look forward to your performance!
