ARISSA M
Arissa can teach Piano, Voice, Ukulele, Saxophones, Mallet Percussion and Songwriting. She is a strong instrumentalist with a lot of enthusiasm! Arissa is known for her patience and warm attitude towards beginners and her extensive musical knowledge and skill with more advanced students. Arissa does not apply the same techniques to every student and truly works with wherever you are and whatever method will help YOU learn best! Arissa interweaves music theory with music fundamentals and creates a space where you can explore music and learn to express yourself through your instrument.
Arissa began playing the piano when she was just 4 years old and has received over 10 years of formal music training up to the collegiate performance level. She has now been playing for over 21 years! In addition to piano, Arissa learned to sing in various choirs, musicals, and small ensembles at a young age, and taught herself guitar and ukulele in middle school and college respectively. Arissa loved being a part of a band, where she played alto and soprano saxophone for 10 years and mallet percussion for 8 as part of the marching band, university band, jazz band, percussion ensemble and brass ensemble throughout middle school, high school, and college. As a result, Arissa is a great team player and loves to collaborate with others and share musical ideas.
Arissa originally studied Piano performance in college but later switched to Psychology. Arissa now has a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Naropa University in Boulder, CO and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA. Arissa finds that her psychology background greatly helps her and her students maintain a fun, compassionate, open, and stress-free learning environment. Raised on Latin music but trained in classical piano, Arissa can teach you any style of music you wish to learn! Arissa has 5 years of teaching experience for individuals and groups, and has even more experience in performing in individual recitals, small and large ensembles, for small and large audiences.
