Project Description
EDGAR G
Edgar is a musician and sound engineer from Puerto Rico. At the age of 5 years old he began to play the piano and took private lessons. He continued playing the piano until the age of 13 years old, when he decided to start playing the guitar and started learning it through private lessons. Edgar has a deep appreciation for music in its many expressions, from sound design, to writing music, and using Digital Audio Workstations. He graduated from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico where he received a bachelor’s degree in Popular Music. He also studied a certificate in Sound Engineering at Arapahoe Community College in Colorado.
Many of Edgar’s influences are based on his life in Puerto Rico. He enjoys Salsa music, Bossa Nova, Jazz, Rock, Metal and Electronic music. Specifically, some artists that changed how he viewed Latin Music were: Machito and his Afro-Cubans, Tito Rodríguez and Tito Puente. He wears his influences on his sleeve and has personally met some of these artists through masterclasses in his university. The reason why he picked up a guitar, however, was through his childhood dream to play like Metallica after seeing them live. He is a huge fan of Deftones, Currents, and Lorna Shore when it comes to metal music nowadays.
Edgar is also passionate about sound design and music production. His favorite Digital Audio Workstations are Logic Pro, Pro Tools, and Ableton Live. Circling back to his musician side, specifically as a guitarist, he enjoys playing hard licks and teaches techniques such as fingerstyle, sweep picking, hybrid picking, and as a baseline, alternate picking. He is very enthusiastic about teaching students of all backgrounds and ages and is more than happy to help them grow through his greatest passion: music. Edgar can fluently speak both Spanish and English.
