GABRIEL M

Gabriel is a Violist and multi-instrumentalist from San Diego, who recently was awarded his Bachelor’s in Viola performance form the University of Denver Lamont School of Music. He is currently completing a Performance certificate at the Lamont School of music under the tutelage of Basil Vendryes.

As an educator, Gabriel currently works at El Sistema Colorado, a nonprofit organization that provides group and private music lessons to underrepresented youth in the Denver area and recently accepted a position to work at Colorado Music institute to teach violin, viola, piano, ukulele and guitar. Gabriel is excited to continue his journey as a teacher and to help spread the joy of music to others.

Gabriel is passionate about performing and as a student, has had the opportunity to perform in festivals such as Green Mountain Music Festival (Burlington, Vermont), Interharmony Music Festival (Aqui Terme, Italy), and Interlochen Arts Camp (Interlochen Michigan) among others. He is also an active participant in multiple ensembles at the University of Denver and currently sits as principal violist of the Lamont Symphony Orchestra.

When Gabriel is not playing classical music, he enjoys playing in a folk band and collaborating with other groups. He has performance and recording experience in genres such as Rock, Indie, Klezmer/Jewish music and more. Gabriel enjoys expanding the boundaries of what is traditionally done on Viola and looks forward to more cross-genre performance in the near future along with his classical studies.
