Project Description

JACOB L

Jacob L is a guitarist and instructor who works as a performer in a variety of settings that stretch from rock and metal bands to big-band orchestras, small group jazz, solo classical guitar, symphonies, weddings, schools, and acoustic guitar-driven coffee shop performances.

An award-winning guitarist, Jacob has traveled the United States and Europe in search of new music and performance opportunities. Some of his works have
included guest appearances with the Spokane
Symphony, pit orchestras, ensemble recordings, and radio airplay on Spokane Public Radio as a soloist and with ensembles. He has also won several young musician awards in a variety of styles from Downbeat Magazine, the Greeley Jazz Festival, MusicFest Northwest, and the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival. Jacob has shared the stage with Frank Greene from the CBS Orchestra, as well as legendary saxophonist and educator Bob Mintzer of the Yellowjackets. Jacob is featured on the studio recording of Mintzer’s original big-band orchestra piece “In the Swing of Things”.

As a teacher, Jacob is passionate about his students and their advancement not only on the guitar but also as individuals who can appreciate music holistically. He has performed for local high schools as an advocate for music education and in hopes of spreading his love for the guitar. His work with music in early education has introduced him to an entirely new world of teaching. Jacob is a dedicated student of the arts himself and has a great respect for all kinds of music. He values innovation, curiosity, and an open mind in all of his endeavors.  Jacob is the former Pre-School Music Director for Green Gables Children’s Learning Center in Spokane, Washington.

Jacob holds his Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Studies degree from the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver. He has also studied music at the University of Glasgow and Berklee College of Music in Boston.
