Music for Young Children (MYC)

Colorado Music Institute is proud to offer one of the world’s finest music education programs: Music for Young Children! Founded in 1980, Music for Young Children (MYC) is one of the world’s leading music-learning systems — the only child-centered program of its kind to integrate keyboard, creative movement, rhythm, ear training, sight reading, music theory, and composition.

My experience with MYC has been incredible. I love the way the children are taught with hands on tools and characters to reach every level of each individual. It was great!  Beverly Pierce, Parent

As an MYC student, your child will learn standard piano repertoire, ear training, music theory and history, composition, listening, sight reading, and music vocabulary. MYC presents musical concepts and theories to children with a multi-sensory approach to learning, which has been proven to increase absorption and retention. Each class also includes games with a musical and educational focus. After completing the most advanced level of the program, generally in 4 to 5 years, our students are well prepared to continue with intermediate piano studies and/or pursue a second instrument or area of music study.

“After nine months of weekly training in piano or voice, new research shows young students’ IQs rose nearly three points more than their untrained peers…”

  • MYC Group Piano
  • ages 5 & up
  • intro-level class determined by age
  • 36 week course beginning in August
  • parent participation required
  • Tuition: $135/month plus one-time materials fee of $145/year.

Parent participation in the classroom is integral to the Music for Young Children program! By being present, you become aware of your child’s learning styles, strengths, and interests; thus enabling you to serve as an informed guide in directing your child’s musical path.

We offer 3 different introductory courses for new students to the program based on age:

  • Sunshine 1 – for beginners ages 5 and 6
  • Sunbeams 1 – for beginners ages 6 and 7
  • Moonbeams 1 – for beginners ages 8 and up

We will work with you in helping place your child (or children) in the appropriate class level at the time of registration.

The MYC curriculum progresses through several levels of study. Each level is a 36 week course, beginning in September and going thru June. However, new classes are sometimes formed at a later time with sufficient enrollment. Classes meet once a week for 55 minutes at a time that’s convenient for you and your child. Our professionally-trained MYC instructors provide a stress free, interactive, and fun musical environment.

About the Teacher:

Kristi is an art educator who loves coming up with dynamic art lessons that encourage creativity while thinking “outside the box”.

She is a 6-year teaching veteran who just finished her 6th year of teaching art at Parker Performing Arts School. After graduating from University of Northern Colorado with a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts, with an emphasis in Graphic Arts she pursued painting and sold various pet portrait paintings.

Since then she found her passion for art with teaching.  She appreciates the developmental stages of children in making art at all ages and is a big fan of encouraging her older students to reach for their “inner child” when creating art.

She loves to teach all mediums of art.  Her favorite things to teach are watercolor, ceramics, drawing, acrylic painting, sculpture and is excited to learn and teach more about Glass Fusion art!

Art should bring joy and fun while embracing the messiness and mistakes made along with it. She inspires her students to have the confidence to explore different mediums both 2D and 3D while using a variety of mixed media techniques.

She is super excited to share the joy and satisfaction of creatively mastering your best in the world of art!
